Deputy Chief R.W. Smith is a native of Iowa Park, Texas and graduated the 41st Police Academy in September 1983. He promoted to Sergeant in February 1994, promoted to Lieutenant in March 2002, promoted Captain in September 2006 and promoted to Deputy Chief in November 2012.
Deputy Chief Smith has worked in all areas of the department including Patrol, Criminal Investigations Section, Gang/Tactical Unit, SWAT team, Commander of the North Texas Regional Drug Enforcement Task Force, Office of Professional Standards/Planning and Research and Traffic Section. He attended Midwestern State University, and is a graduate of the 254th session, FBI National Academy.
The Community Operations Division includes the Field Services Section who answer calls for service 24 hours a day seven days a week, 365 days every year. The Community Operations Division also contains the Community Services Division. The Community Services Division is comprised of the Traffic Unit, Public Information Officer, Crime Free Unit, Crime Stoppers, Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement, DARE, Recruiting &Training, Accident Investigation, Grant Management and Research, Statistics and Analysis. We handle traffic calls, coordinate special events planning and high traffic situations like Fourth of July Celebrations and Hotter-n-Hell Hundred.
We have special programs to educate our citizens on how to become involved in their community with the Citizens Police Academy and Neighborhood Watch programs, DARE, and Crime Stoppers.
We also work all traffic accidents, all calls for service, training for our department and surrounding departments and agencies.
