November 23, 2020, 6:00 PM - December 26, 2020, 10:00 PM @ Midwestern State University
The MSU Burns Fantasy of Lights is one of the largest holiday displays of its kind. Its purpose is to provide a festive holiday atmosphere on campus, to serve as an outreach to the community, and to be a focal point for holiday activities in North Texas. The displays are owned and operated by Midwestern State University for the benefit and enjoyment of the Wichita Falls community and surrounding area. The Fantasy of Lights is filled with individual displays that showcase characters from well-known children's stories, fairy tales, and holiday themes. In the late 1920s, the recently married Mr. and Mrs. L.T. Burns celebrated their first Christmas together in their modest home on Tenth Street in Wichita Falls by setting a small Christmas tree on their front porch decorating it with a single, blue bulb. It was a small gesture, but a significant one for the young couple, especially Mr. Burns, who grew up in a family unable to afford such luxuries as Christmas trees.
November 27, 2020, 6:30 PM - December 19, 2020, 8:30 PM @ River Bend Nature Center
With the flip of a switch, more than 60,000 lights on more than 195 lighted displays will glitter and sparkle, bringing the sights and sounds of the season to adults and children. This year ElectriCritters will be open every Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm from November 27th through December 19th. COVID-19 will make this year’s event a little different. ElectriCritters will only be held outside and Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Butterfly Queen are taking the holiday off. However, we are excited to announce that due to the generosity of donors, admission to ElectriCritters will be made FREE to the public this year! ElectriCritters is a fundraiser for River Bend Nature Center. All proceeds support River Bend’s natural science education and outreach programs for children and adults. River Bend is stroller and wheelchair accessible. River Bend is located at 2200 3rd St. near the main entrance to Lucy Park.
