The Wichita Falls Fire Marshal’s Division is responsible for all Fire Prevention and Education programs, Fire Inspections and Fire Investigation within the incorporated city limits of Wichita Falls. The Fire Marshal’s Division is also responsible for the review and inspection of various fire protection systems related to new and existing construction as well as other life safety features. In addition, the Fire Marshal’s Division acts as Public Information Officers for the Wichita Falls Fire Department. The division consists of the Fire Marshal and three Assistant Fire Marshals who are certified in Inspection, Plan Review, and Investigation.
Fire Marshal Cody Melton has been with the Wichita Falls Fire Department since 2007 serving in multiple ranks in the Operations Division. He was promoted to Fire Marshal in September 2020 and he holds the certifications of Master Structural Firefighter, Instructor II, Plans Examiner, Fire Investigator, and Fire Inspector. In October 2019 he graduated from the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy with the professional designation of “Certified Fire Executive” and he has also graduated from the Fire Executive Management Training at the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) at Sam Houston State University. Melton graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Texas in 2009 and earned his Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree through Texas A&M International.
