The Emergency Management Office and First Responders from City, County, State and Federal offices are on call 24 hours a day to respond to challenges posed by manmade or natural disasters. Under Texas State Law, Wichita Falls Mayor Glenn Barham is the City’s Director of Emergency Management. The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is John Henderson.
Working Closely with the Health District
Emergency Management works closely with Emergency Preparedness personnel at the Health District. Monitor their updates, alerts, event information and more by following Emergency Preparedness on Facebook.
Response is Teamwork
The Emergency Management Office works closely with City Departments including: Public Works, Police, Fire, Health District and Public Information Office to address the needs and safety of the citizens.
Additional Team Members
The office also enjoys close relationships with Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Co., Amateur Radio-ARES, Salvation Army, Am. Red Cross, United Way of N.TX, NORTEX and many other organizations at the City, County, State and Federal level.
Goals and Purpose
The goal of the Emergency Management Office is to work proactively to ensure the safety and preparedness of area citizen as well as:
•Ensure hazards that threaten Wichita Falls are clearly identified.
•Improve upon local emergency related skills of local personnel.
•Conduct exercises to test training and validate plans.
•Increase public awareness of hazards and appropriate mitigation actions.
•Identify and implement vulnerability and risk reduction measures.
